Delta employees and customers have been united in their passion for the work of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation since 2005. Each October, Delta kicks off a month-long campaign to generate awareness and money for BCRF with our ‘Breast Cancer One’ employee survivor flight. On this year’s flight from Atlanta to San Diego, survivors raised more than $25,000 for life-saving research.
In honor of the 15th Breast Cancer One flight, here are 15 facts about Delta’s partnership with BCRF as we launch 2019 fundraising:
Breast cancer is the second-most common cancer worldwide.
Thanks to research, there are more than 3.5 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. and breast cancer deaths have declined by nearly 40% during the past 25 years. But with 40,000 lives lost each year, there is still critical work to be done.
Delta people have raised $16.8 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation since 2005.
$32,500 is the largest amount raised by a Delta employee.
For every dollar donated to BCRF, 91 cents is given to research.
Money raised over the years by employees and customers has funded 67 research projects in the pursuit of eradicating breast cancer.
Donations from Delta employees and customers currently fund eight researchers from Paris to Israel and across the U.S.
1.5 million SkyMiles have been donated to BCRF during the past three years, helping researchers travel to critical meetings and symposiums.
Delta’s pink uniform was created in 2008, championed by flight attendant Alice Ramsey to bring awareness to the annual fundraising campaign.
There are nine pink uniform pieces for Delta flight attendants and gate agents.
Delta dedicated our iconic Pink Plane to BCRF in 2010. Since then the Pink Plane has had four liveries, the most recent dating to 2015.
Delta’s 767-400 Pink Plane has flown a total of 36 million miles.
The Pink Plane has visited 28 airports in 19 countries including France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, Russia and Greece.
100 percent of profits from Minute Maid pink lemonade and earbuds sold in flight during October is donated to BCRF.
Each year at Delta’s Pink Boutiques, the blanket, jacket, t-shirt and tool set are the top selling products; all sell out.
Delta employees will wear pink uniforms and sell pink products, including lemonade and headsets, on board and in Delta Sky Clubs throughout October. Customers and employees can donate to BCRF in flight and virtually year-round on delta.com and through SkyWish, the charitable arm of our SkyMiles frequent flyer program.
Customers can purchase Pink Boutique merchandise through the online store, with proceeds benefitting BCRF research projects. Also, Delta is donating a percentage of onboard food and beverage sales to BCRF during October.
